What Does a Mobile Notary Cost in California?
By John F. Heinz, Managing Director, Prismark Signature Services
Published: August 30, 2026
Quick Answer
California sets maximum fees for certain notarial acts. For example, the maximum fee for taking an acknowledgment is $15 for each signature acknowledged, and the maximum fee for executing a jurat is $15. A mobile notary may also charge a separate travel or mobile-service fee for coming to your location.
At Prismark Signature Services, mobile notary service starts at $80. The mobile-service fee is separate from, and in addition to, the cost of the notarizations performed. The total appointment price can vary based on location, travel distance, scheduling, and the number and type of notarial acts required.

Why Is There a Mobile-Service Fee?
When you use a mobile notary, you are paying for the convenience of having the notary travel to you. Prismark can meet clients at homes, offices, hospitals, assisted living communities, escrow offices, and other agreed-upon locations throughout Los Angeles and surrounding communities.
The mobile-service fee covers the time and travel involved in bringing the appointment to your location. It is separate from the fees charged for the notarial acts performed.
How Are California Notary Fees Calculated?
California law establishes maximum fees for specified notarial services. The 2026 California Notary Public Handbook lists a maximum fee of $15 for each signature acknowledged and $15 for executing a jurat, including the seal. Other notarial services can have different statutory maximums.
The number and type of notarizations required therefore affect the final cost. If you are unsure how many signatures or notarial acts your documents require, Prismark can review the prepared documents and provide an expected price before the appointment.
2027 California Notary Fee Change
Beginning January 1, 2027, Assembly Bill 1597 increases California’s maximum fee for taking an acknowledgment from $15 to $20 for each signature acknowledged and increases the maximum fee for administering an oath or affirmation to one person and executing a jurat from $15 to $20. These are maximum statutory notarial fees; Prismark’s mobile-service fee remains separate from, and in addition to, the fees for the notarizations performed.

What About Loan Signing Packages?
Loan-signing packages are priced differently from a general mobile notary appointment because they typically involve larger document packages, printing, longer signing appointments, document handling, and return of the completed package.
Prismark’s standard loan-signing fees are:
- Buyer loan package: $250
- Seller package: $175
Printing and required FedEx or UPS drop-off are included when applicable. Scan-back service is also provided for loan signings when required by the lender, escrow, title company, or signing instructions. Unusually large packages, extended travel, or special circumstances may require a different quote.
Can the Price Change?
Yes. The total can vary depending on the number and type of notarizations, travel distance, the type of appointment, scheduling, and any unusual document or service requirements. Prismark will confirm the expected pricing before the appointment.
